The Memphis Library Foundation funds hundreds of programs across all 18 Memphis Public Library locations. With a little something for everyone, you’re bound to find an event, service, activity, or space just for you.
CLOUD901 Teen Learning Lab is a two-story creative space at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library specifically for teens ages 13-18. This innovative space features a video studio, a music recording studio, visual and digital art areas, a makerspace, a performance space, gaming and VR gear, and so much more. In addition to having access to computers, cameras, instruments, art supplies, 3D printers, sewing machines, and power tools, high-schoolers even run a competitive FIRST Robotics team out of the Learning Lab. With help from our funding partners, there are or will soon be Teen Innovation Centers throughout the library system to serve teens in their own neighborhoods.
With support from our funding partners, these interactive early childhood literacy spaces have resources for parents and caregivers to help children learn the fundamentals of reading. They are the perfect places for families to read, talk, sing, write, and play together. Interactive activities and skill-building resources help get kids ready to learn in school — and have fun!
Listen up! This podcast festival held every year at the Cossitt Library features high-profile keynote speakers, podcasting tips and tricks from the pros, and even a podcast pitch contest. If you have your own podcast, are interested in starting one, or are just an avid listener, be sure to tune in for the next one. You can also plug in to one of the free podcasting programs throughout the year at Cossitt Library, led by our first-ever Innovator-In-Residence, Ena Esco.
A new addition to Memphis Public Libraries, the Library of Things lets you check out fun and unique items, tools, and kits to use at home without having to purchase them. Activity kits available for checkout include Outdoor Movie Night, Camping, Karaoke, and Yard Games. You can also check out tool kits for cooking, gardening, arts & crafts, home improvement, and auto repair. Have an idea for a new kit? Submit your ideas and let us know!
Thanks to support from our funding partner, International Paper, Explore Memphis invites families to read, learn, play, and EXPLORE for two whole months every summer. Activities include a summer reading challenge (for kids & adults), summer camps for kids, neighborhood festivals, events for all ages, online adventures, free resources, and more. The Explore Memphis program is a winner of the National Summer Learning Association Award for Excellence.
Often called “Memphis’ best-kept secret,” LINC 2-1-1 is an information line and social service connector that is recognized as one of the best in the country. Just call “2-1-1” to talk to a real person to help answer questions and connect you to resources throughout Memphis. Funded by the United Way of the Mid-South, LINC 2-1-1 includes an online community resource database and social workers deployed throughout the library system to identify and support library customers in need of assistance and case management. The most frequent requests for help are utilities, food, protective services, legal assistance, child care, social support, housing, and mental health.
Our partnership with Creative Aging enables us to offer creative classes, performances, and workshops for seniors throughout the library system. The programs not only keep lifelong learners engaged, active, and discovering new skills, it helps them create new social connections and form bonds in their communities. Memphis Public Libraries hosts dozens of Creative Aging sessions at branches across the city every year.
